Elementary Grades 3-5

These 2 Units for Grades 3-5 explore how land and water define the watershed (We all Live in a Watershed) followed by how people used land and water to devise a public water system (Philadelphia’s Water Story). Each Learning Experience can be taught in one class period, although we provide extensions throughout should you have more time (and curiosity) Taught in sequence, Unit 1 is 7 class periods, Unit 2 is 5. We encourage you to follow these 2 Units with an Action Project of any length

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF WATER ? Water is essential to our lives and all life on Earth– so it is important to take care of our water resources and we have an important role to play. Unit 2: Philadelphia's Water Story

HOW DID WATER SHAPE OUR CITY AND THE CITY SHAPE OUR WATER? How did the growth of the city as a manufacturing powerhouse end up shaping waterways in new ways? In these 5 learning experiences, students explore how the urban water cycle was impacted and how Philadelphia designed and manages the systems and infrastructure related to drinking water, wastewater and stormwater.
