Issue Definition
Throughout this unit students explore how urban development has changed the natural watershed and map how the growth of our city has threatened the sustainability of our urban ecosystem.
Outdoor Field Experience
In LE 2.2.5 students go outside to look for evidence of water in the area around the school. They can investigate the clues the evidence gives as to how the water may have impacted the site where the evidence was found. They can use historical maps to create a timeline of the changes to the area.
Synthesis and Conclusion
Using their analysis, students can identify cause/effect relationships that threaten the stability and health of our city.
Environmental Action Project
As a part of the interview project at the conclusion of this unit, students may use the stories of water-related events to trace back to the infrastructure change that may have led to it. They can then design a campaign to help educate their community and propose solutions.
